Future of Nursing Testimony

Joyce Sensmeier MS, RN-BC, CPHIMS, FHIMSS, FAAN, HIMSS senior advisor, informatics, provided testimony on Wednesday, August 7, to the National Academy of Medicine Future of Nursing 2020-2030 Committee at a Town Hall meeting in Seattle, Washington. Her recommendations focused on policies that should be advanced related to social and behavioral determinants of health (SDOH) to achieve health equity by leveraging health information technology and tools that would favorably impact the outcome of peoples’ health and well-being.

Sensmeier noted in her remarks that the rapid expansion of technologies in healthcare justifies the study and use of interventions and tools that support equitable access, advance health equity and champion wellness by capturing SDOH data, but more research is still necessary to fulfill this promise.
