Throughout her career, Catherine Ivory, PhD, RNC-OB, RN-BC, FAAN has demonstrated her commitment to helping cultivate the next generation of nurse informaticists.
After spending over 15 years as a staff nurse, clinical specialist and women's services nursing administrator at the healthcare system level, she joined the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing (VUSN) faculty in 2012. In 2014, Ivory served as the 2014 President of the Association of Women's Health, OB and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), representing more than 300,000 nurses who care for women and newborns.
She is also a board-certified informatics nurse, holding a secondary appointment in the Vanderbilt Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI) in the School of Medicine. She now serves as the associate chief nurse executive and vice president of professional practice and care transformation at Indiana University Health.
An active volunteer with HIMSS, Ivory has served as a member of the HIMSS Standard Terminologies Task Force, the HIMSS Nursing Informatics Committee and also a member of the HIMSS Annual Conference Nursing Symposium Planning Committee – actively engaging across all HIMSS nursing informatics communities.

Her many achievements and contributions to the nursing profession have earned Catherine Ivory the 2018 HIMSS-ANI Nursing Informatics Leadership Award. HIMSS and ANI present this award to one individual who, in the judgment of the HIMSS North America Board of Directors, has demonstrated significant leadership in the area of nursing informatics within the Society and the healthcare community.

She is an exemplary clinician leader and strategic thinker, and consistently serves as a positive advocate and role model for HIMSS nursing informatics community, and other clinical endeavors.”
Ivory will be honored at the HIMSS18 Nursing Informatics Symposium and will receive her award at the HIMSS18 Awards Gala on Thursday, March 8, from 6:30-9 p.m. at the Wynn Hotel inside the Latour Ballroom, during the 2018 HIMSS Conference & Exhibition on March 5-9 in Las Vegas, Nev., at the Venetian-Palazzo Sands Center.
