Title: Voice User Interface Connecting Clinicians with Supply Inventory Management Via Alexa
One of Po-Yin’s recent projects, VoiceConnect-S, has been working on implementing a voice assistant, Amazon Alexa, in the supply room to assist clinicians in supply retrieval. The success of the project will have the potential to streamline supply inventory management and improve patient care quality with reduced supply retrieval time in the supply room or on the phone, increased clinician satisfaction, and more time with patients. The project was one of the winners of the Big Ideas competition, sponsored by the Healthcare Innovation Lab, BJC HealthCare, and the Washington University Institute for Informatics, to develop collaborative clinical, operational, and research innovations in informatics and health care delivery. The Global Digital Health Network has a new co-chair who has come on-board as of February 5, 2021: Congratulations Olivia Velez, of ICF, as the new co-chair.
Dr. Olivia Vélez is a Health Informatics Specialist, Lead with ICF and has completed training in computer science, management information systems, public health, nursing, and biomedical informatics whose work has focused on the use of informatics to address global health disparities. Her recent work has included leading the customization of international guidelines for Electronic Health Record security for low-resource settings and content curation for the Data Use Community. Dr. Vélez is an author of over a dozen peer-reviewed papers on health informatics and has presented her work on digital health at both national and international venues including the Global Digital Health Forum, MedInfo, the UN Economic & Social Council Partnership Clinic on Mobiles for Midwives, and numerous informatics conferences. Dr. Vélez was a 2010 Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholar and a 2014 Alliance for Nursing Informatics Emerging Leader.
The Global Digital Health Network envisions a world where technical innovation supports improved health and contributes to better quality, accessibility and sustainability of health services and health outcomes, particularly for underserved populations in low resource environments. Formerly known as the mHealth Working Group, the Network was established in 2009 by global health organizations for global health organizations.
